Next Week at Sea Tea Comedy Theater

Thursday, September 28th at 8:00 PM
MCQUEEN (Funny or Die & Comedy Central) with Greg Barris
Fresh off a tour with Funny or Die and creator of the new Comedy Central Snapchat series “Heads Will Roll” McQueen Adams has taken his world of impressions, music, and comedy in a fresh and innovative direction, creating a hi-tech audio- visual universe. His new show "SAN PEDRO" incorporates his improvisational skills with the music of groups such as Daft Punk and Coldplay, voices both real and fictional, including Gandalf, his Mom’s Cat and Jason Statham, and plenty of original bizarre inhabitants.

Adams is master of this mashup of songs, voices, and sketches that Radiohead’s Thom Yorke has called “just brilliant.”

Tickets ($10): https://www.eventbrite.com/e/mcqueen-funny-or-die-comedy-central-with-greg-barris-tickets-37407574061

Joining McQueen is comedian Greg Barris, fresh from touring with Tig Notaro, Reggie Watts, Rory Scovel, and Nick Thune:

Greg Barris is a staple in New York’s downtown stand-up scene and is the creator of Heart Of Darkness 'The World's Most Important Live Event': a psychedelic showcase of comedy, live music and fringe scientists that has been a frequent Time Out New York critic’s pick, much loved by BrooklynVegan and hailed as ‘Excellent’ by The New Yorker. PAPER describes him as “the perfect combination of very good looking, hilarious and super-weird.”

Chatterbox / The Quagan Family
Improv and Storytelling are like two siblings who can't stop chattering.

In this show, Chatterbox: Improv Meets Storytelling, we'll all hear some compelling stories for the first time, and then our improvisers spin the ideas and themes from those stories into some awesome comedy scenes for you!

Sometimes the stories are from a special guest, sometimes we'll ask the audience for stories, sometimes a professional storyteller, or sometimes it's our own improvisers -- but any way it goes, you get a little bit of improv and a little bit of storytelling!

This month's special guest is... The Quagan Family! A famliy of talented authors, musicians, and entertainers will tell stories about their lives together, growing up, and their many projects, like Brittany Quagan's REN books ( amzn.to/2wTfnlL ) and Journeys: Holistic Wellness & Anxiety Relief Center; Brian Jr.'s stand-up ( https://twitter.com/bjquagan ) and improv groups like KnucklePuck, Brain's Song, and Grantch; being in bands like BJ's Luli and the Innocents and Brian's Still Kickin' and the Big City Horns, AND MORE! Then see the Chatterbox improvisers turn the stories into improv comedy scenes!

Doc Foster's Twisted Tales: A Puppet Show for Grown-Ups
Step right up ladies and gentlemen! Step right up and prepare to be shocked, delighted and horrified during Doc Foster’s Twisted Tales as the one and only Doctor Thaddeus J. Foster rolls into town to beguile audiences with his rare and ghastly brand of storytelling. This is not your Grandma’s puppet show! Nowhere else will audiences have the opportunity to marvel as monsters, specters and demons congregate from supernatural regions and beyond to terrorize the innocent! Stories of intrigue, love, betrayal (and the occasional murder) lay in store for the curious and the brave. Nothing is sacred or too strange for Foster, who reminds us that not every story has a happy ending.

Tickets: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/doc-fosters-twisted-tales-a-puppet-show-for-grown-ups-tickets-36065316332

Doc Foster’s Twisted Tales is a wickedly macabre puppet show anthology combining hand puppetry, shadow, and crankies to bring four original tales of terror to life as told by the eccentric Doc Foster and his misfit troupe of performers. UConn Puppet Arts Program MFA candidate Shane C.S. McNeal pays tribute to the horror genre with this twisted dark comedy of cautionary tales.

Here’s what audiences are saying about Doc Foster:

“Imagine a blend of Coraline, Creepy Pasta and live theater. Oh yeah, it’s creepy, it’s fun, and it’s visually delicious.” – Jeanette Andromeda – Horrormade.com

“What a phenomenal show! I've never laughed so much at tales of death! From its interactive set to its exquisitely talented performers, from captivating storytelling to creatively crafted puppetry, Doc Foster's Twisted Tales was a delight to experience.” – Kayleigh Mierzejewski

“It was attention grabbing (and) hard to lose focus.” - Adam Koziolsasid

What's Your Problem? with Chion Wolf
What's Your Problem? is a live advice* show at Sea Tea Improv's underground comedy theater for curious people with a sense of humor.

Write down your problem and/or confession ANONYMOUSLY, put it in the big box, and then host Chion Wolf (WNPR, The Mouth at The Mark Twain House & Museum, the Hartford Hot Several Brass Band, Night Fall) will help you figure it all out with her panel of unqualified yet enthusiastic, thoughtful humans.

Tickets ($15): https://www.eventbrite.com/e/whats-your-problem-with-chion-wolf-tickets-34893274724

For every problem, a new audience volunteer is chosen! Sometimes working out the problems is VERY funny, and sometimes it’s deadly serious. Even better, sometimes it’s both.

At the end of the night, Chion picks one final audience volunteer randomly who gets a free pair of tickets to next month’s show, and the grand finale is a Declaration of Confessions.

Very mature children are invited, and immature adults appreciated, profanity likely.

The audio of each show will be recorded live and released later as a podcast, so if you don't want your snorting laughter or gasps of realizations broadcast to the whole world, you'd better bring your highly-effective muffling techniques.

Act 1: It's 1992 in Hartford, the pilot episode of UPN's most promising show, The Charter Boys. Someone has stolen the Connecticut Charter! It's up to by-the-book Detective Vincent Stapler and former-art-thief-turned-Detective Calvin DiAngelo to find it and, in turn, save Connecticut. Act 2: The intense series finale, 8 years later! Will Detectives Stapler and DiAngelo find the Charter before Thomas Dudley's crew? Will Sandra Sheary revive her role as Dr. Ashley Applebaum? Is Chief Holden going to survive? Will 2000 really be the end of The Charter Boys?

If you're struggling in this chaotic, cruel, funny, absurd, amazing world, and you need someone to talk to, please call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline: 1-800-273-8255.

What's cool is that you don't have to be suicidal to call them. You don't need to be at your lowest point to find help. You are NOT alone, and you’re always welcome at Sea Tea.

On August 20, 2016, we opened the Sea Tea Comedy Theater with so many of our fans and supporters in the audience!

On July 7, 2016, we announced our Grand Opening date of August 20, 2016, and some of the very first shows in the theater!

On September 23, 2015, we held a special hard hat preview tour of the future home of the Sea Tea Comedy Theater at 15 Asylum Street in Hartford, CT!

On July 1, 2015, the lease began on our theater space in the basement of 15 Asylum Street in Hartford, CT! This is the space beneath Koji and Dunkin Donuts that was JP’s Restaurant many years ago, and is part of the building at 11 Asylum.

On May 26, 2015, the Kickstarter campaign for our very own comedy theater finished. We set a goal of $35,000 and were completely overwhelmed by the $60,180 that was donated. Based on our research, our families, friends, and fans made ours the most successful Kickstarter for a comedy theater ever!
