Learn to create completely improvised comedy scenes and characters by working with others!
Students in this class will learn to really listen to their scene partners, add interesting specifics & details, and progress & expand improvised scenes. We'll use short, fast-paced improv games to learn to act quickly and spend less time worrying about making the perfect move. Invent and inspire rich and consistent characters, and learn to create a playable environment with just miming. This course ends in a share performance for an invited audience at Sea Tea Comedy Theater.

Prerequisites: None, though students with no performance experience may prefer to take one of our 4-week Intro to Improv classes before taking Improv 101.

About the Instructor: Miriam Lexie has been improvising with Sea Tea Improv since August 2013. Prior to that she had the chance to explore the theatrical stage with Bryn Athyn Community Theater in Pennsylvania, in shows such as The Romancers and Twelfth Night. During her undergraduate studies, she assistant taught a personal growth theater course titled "The Hero's Journey." Through her work with Sea Tea Improv, Miriam has had the opportunity to perform in a variety of shortform and longform improv shows, as well as traveling to perform at festivals in cities such as Baltimore, DC, Philadelphia, Hartford, Minneapolis, and Chicago. She has participated as a teacher for Hartford's Beat on the Street program, has assisted in teaching numerous corporate team-building workshops, and in the spring of 2016 will be teaching workshops for the children of Newtown, CT as part of an ongoing recovery project. Miriam has a Masters of Science in Clinical and Counseling Psychology from Chestnut Hill College, PA. She feels passionate about making Hartford an exciting city to play in and explore. She is also fascinated by the intersections of performance art, literature, psychology, and neuroscience. She is currently employed full time as an Addictions Counselor in Holyoke, MA.
