By Yourself but Not Alone: A Solo Character Workshop

Instructor: Ross Childs

Solo performance on stage can be daunting. It’s just you up there - no one to play off of, it’s just you against the audience, or is it? Solo improv allows the actor to have complete control over their universe. There’s no cap on the weird. In this workshop, Ross will teach fundamental techniques for solo character development, as well as ways to build a narrative for that character. The best part: any of these techniques can be utilized in two-or-more-person scene work. In a nutshell, you’ll learn to trust yourself.

About the Instructor: Ross Childs has been studying and performing improv, comedy, music, and theatre in Chicago for the past six years. He received his BA in theatre in 2012, and after moving to Chicago, completed training at iO, The Annoyance, and The Second City. Recently, Ross performed a successful solo music and sketch show at Chicago Sketchfest. In 2018, he released an album of comedy songs titled, “Kazoology.”
