Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Can I buy tickets at the door?

To guarantee you’ll get a seat, buy your tickets online in advance. If you’re feeling more spontaneous, just walk up to our box office before the show! We almost always have a few more tickets available.

Is there a minimum age to get into Sea Tea Comedy Theater?

There is no minimum age to get in, but you must be 21 or over with an ID to buy alcoholic drinks from our bar.

Should I bring my kids to a show at Sea Tea Comedy Theater?

Yes! We have all-ages family friendly shows almost every Sunday afternoon. We regularly get kids, teens and adults in our family show audience.
The all-ages family show is a little over an hour long, including a short intermission.

Besides our all-ages family show, the content of our nighttime shows can range from PG to R, so parents should use their own judgement about whether they’d want their child in the room. Shows are often improvised, and adult themes and words might very well come up. Most shows (besides the all-ages family shows) are adults performing for an adult audience.

How old do you have to be to take a class at Sea Tea Improv Studios?

We occasionally offer courses and workshops specifically for kids or teens. Besides those, our course offerings are designed for adults who are 18 and over, and most of our students are adults.

In the past, we have had younger students who’ve gotten their parents’ permission to take a course with adults. Students in our courses are all treated as adults, and we don’t allow spectators in our courses.* Students under 18 must have parental permission to take a course with adult students in an environment where improvisation can and does lead to adult situations, themes, and words. While we demand our students be respectful of one another and encourage them to make high-brow choices, we cannot control everything that might be said by a student in our courses.

* Accommodations can be (and have been) made for special needs, but we strongly encourage an environment where students are free to experiment and fail without being watched by people who are not participating in the course.

So, you have two locations? A theater and studios?

Yes. Sea Tea Comedy Theater is at 15 Asylum Street and has shows and most of our other public events. Sea Tea Improv Studios are at 11 Asylum St, Suite 402 and have classes, workshops, practices & rehearsals. Our theater and studios are actually in the same building!

What about parking? And the bus, too, I guess?

Our shows at Sea Tea Comedy Theater and our classes at Sea Tea Improv Studios are almost always at times when street parking is free in Hartford, which is all weekend or after 6PM on weekdays. There is street parking on Asylum Street very close to our theater & Studios, as well as many nearby streets.

If you’d rather not park on the street, there is a paid lot directly across from our Theater with an entrance on Asylum Street, as well as many other paid lots and garages all around Downtown that are a short walk from the theater.

Take the bus to Sea Tea Comedy Theater! Show your transfer or ticket and get 50% off tickets as part of CTfastrak’s Rider Rewards program! This offer is good for any show regularly priced at $10 that’s not already sold out.

See our full page on getting to our Theater and Studios for more info and tips.

How can I contact Sea Tea Improv with any questions?

You can contact us via email at comedy@seateaimprov.com (the best way for us), or by leaving a voicemail or texting us at (860) 578-4832.

What’s the refund policy?

If you are requesting a refund, we ask that you submit your request via our Eventbrite ticketing system at least 1 day before the event. To request a refund, go to Tickets in your Eventbrite account, find your order, then select “Request a Refund.” If you’ve never logged in to Eventbrite before, first create an account to claim tickets that have been issued to your email address.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the Theater or Studios?

No. You can just give your name at the box office or in the class. We have a record of all ticket purchases on our end. If you really want to show something at the door, you can pull up the tickets from your email or the Eventbrite app, but once you purchase the tickets, we have your name and we will be able to check you in at the door.
