Our shortform improv show!

Similar to “Whose Line is it Anyway?”, we take tons of suggestions from the audience and use them (and a few audience volunteers here and there) in a variety of scenes, songs, and competitive games made up right on the spot!

Come see the show and have dinner, drinks & dessert while you watch — City Steam brews their own beers right on the premises.

This is our first and longest-running show — we’ve performed over 50 monthly shows at City Steam since 2009.

Our longform improv show!

We bring the big-city style improv of New York, Chicago, Boston & LA to life in Hartford!

We’ll take a single suggestion of a word, phrase, or title, get inspired by improvised stories from celebrity guests, or interview audience members to create a 25-40 minute improvised comedy with different scenes, themes & characters!

The showcase features Sea Tea Improv’s show AND other performances by invited groups & mixed improvisers from all over, for a big fun festival-style show!

In this newest addition to our monthly shows, we put on special one-time or experimental comedy shows that may not even be improv!

We’ve done improvised musicals, a special show for kids & families, a sketch comedy show with live music similar to SNL, a show where the improv groups swapped members, and a show with new one-off groups that were no bigger than 3 members each!

These shows are where we do something truly unique — don’t miss a once in a lifetime opportunity!

Hanging with Harold - Weekly Drop-In Jam
Hanging with Harold is not a class or a workshop. It's not a show, either. It's a learn-by-doing drop-in jam where Sea Tea Improv and members of the improv community (that's you, just by showing up!) perform a kind of longform improv together known as the Harold.

"You'll have to do about a hundred Harolds to start feeling comfortable with the form." - Matt Besser, founding member of the Upright Citizens Brigade

We will keep track of the cumulative number of Harolds done by each participant from week to week. Each week, we will do 1, 2 or 3 Harolds (time depending), and everyone who participates will add to their Harold total toward everyone's personal goal of 100 completed Harolds.

Who will be first to reach 100 Harolds completed?

Beat of the Street & Sea Tea Improv-- a Fundraiser for Homelessness
Sea Tea Improv has had such a good time working with Beat of the Street-- a group of folks who are homeless, formerly homeless, or supporters of those struggling against homelessness-- that we've decided to put on a show with them!

Sea Tea will perform one of its legendary "Whose Line Is It Anyway"-style shows, but for the first time ever, will integrate our students from Beat of the Street & The Center for Creative Learning into the show. We are so excited to join these two creative, collaborative, and generous forces of Hartford together.

Sea Tea Improv has been teaching improv comedy to Beat on the Street and would love to welcome you to a show that will raise funds for this awesome program, just as we head into winter.

The fundraiser will be $10 at the door and begin at 7:30 at Charter Oak Cultural Center.

100% of proceeds will go to the Center for Creative Learning, a service that provides free classes for the Hartford homeless community. BOTS staff and other community members have developed a curriculum that provides people with skills that will help them find employment and enrich their lives.

Classes take place twice a week and offers participants a bag lunch as well as a safe, warm place to go when homeless shelters close during the day. The Center for Creative learning needs funds for staff, food, and coffee. When it comes to hot beverages, Sea Tea is obviously dedicated to helping out!

Tuesday, November 26th in the evening at Charter Oak Cultural Center. After the show, enjoy light refreshments and meet the students and improvisers yourself. Don't miss it!

Each installment will feature Sea Tea Improv and a superb guest group from Connecticut, Boston, New York, or elsewhere pushing the boundaries of what improv can be.

Our guest this month: Pam Victor's "Geeking Out with: The Improvised Show" with special guests Sasha Goldberg and Will Luera!

Imagine this. You're a total, hopeless improv geek. You love talking about improv, writing about improv, and, most of all, performing improv. And on this special night, you get to hang out and improvise with one of your comedy heroes. You're imagining "Geeking Out with: The Improvised Show" in which improv geek Pam Victor brings the spirit of her popular "Geeking Out with..." written blog interview series to the stage in a totally improvised show. The show begins as Pam asks her improv hero any questions she can dream up about improv philosophy, the meaning of life, and super nasty secrets from their past. Then she goes toe-to-toe with her guest in a series of improvised scenes inspired by their tête-a-têtes, Pam and her guest mingle talk and play, fact and fiction, reality and imagination...and then Pam's head explodes because she's so friggin' psyched, she can't take it any more. For this night, Pam can't wait to improvise with Sasha Goldberg, a wildly popular and talented improviser and teacher from ImprovBoston, and Will Luera, Artistic Director Emeritus of ImprovBoston.
