Our shortform improv show!

Similar to “Whose Line is it Anyway?”, we take tons of suggestions from the audience and use them (and a few audience volunteers here and there) in a variety of scenes, songs, and competitive games made up right on the spot!

Come see the show and have dinner, drinks & dessert while you watch — City Steam brews their own beers right on the premises.

This is our first and longest-running show — we’ve performed over 50 monthly shows at City Steam since 2009.

Our longform improv show!

We bring the big-city style improv of New York, Chicago, Boston & LA to life in Hartford!

We’ll take a single suggestion of a word, phrase, or title, get inspired by improvised stories from celebrity guests, or interview audience members to create a 25-40 minute improvised comedy with different scenes, themes & characters!

The showcase features Sea Tea Improv’s show AND other performances by invited groups & mixed improvisers from all over, for a big fun festival-style show!

In this newest addition to our monthly shows, we put on special one-time or experimental comedy shows that may not even be improv!

We’ve done improvised musicals, a special show for kids & families, a sketch comedy show with live music similar to SNL, a show where the improv groups swapped members, and a show with new one-off groups that were no bigger than 3 members each!

These shows are where we do something truly unique — don’t miss a once in a lifetime opportunity!

Improv Open Mic *AND* Mixer!
https://www.facebook.com/events/146168482174262/

On Friday, June 8th at 8PM at the Hole in the Wall Theater, Sea Tea Improv will host an Improv Open Mic *AND* Improv Mixer!

$5 | BYOB
All proceeds go to support the Hole in the Wall, a community theater.

-- What the heck is this thing? --
This is a chance for anyone to come watch & participate in improv comedy in two fun ways!

- Improv Open Mic -
We're encouraging established improv groups to come sign up for 5 to 15 minute slots to perform short form games or short longforms! Try something experimental! Play your favorite games! Form a one-off group for the night! Get some work in with your team in front of an audience!

- Improv Mixer -
In between the open mic slots, we'll be doing mixed improv scenes just like the ones at VLAD the IMPROV-er's Connecticut Improv Mixers! Put your name on the list, and you'll be randomly paired with another improvisor of a complementary level to do a short improv scene! Whether you come alone or with a group for the open mic, you can put your name in for mixer scenes!

- Can I just watch? -
Well, yeah, sure... you can just watch. But we definitely encourage you to try it out! Even if you've never done improv before, we can pair you with an expert who will bend over backwards to make you look good. Sea Tea Improv and the CT improv community is a very supportive environment, and we all know that no one's perfect, and no one's good all the time.

Let us know if you have any questions!

Sea Tea Improv for a Change! A Fundraiser for HartBeat Ensemble
This annual hip, laugh off of your seat event will remind you why you love watching this group perform!

Sea Tea Improv will be joined by other area improv groups for a night of improvised plays created on the spot based on your suggestions. Help shape our search for the truth through comedy!

All proceeds go to benefit HartBeat Ensemble.

HartBeat Ensemble creates original, professional theater based on stories from our community. Through Mainstage plays, Open-Air performances and Education programs, we make theater accessible beyond the barriers of class, race or gender.

Gregory Tate, Julia Rosenblatt and Steven Ginsburg founded HartBeat Ensemble in September of 2001 after working together at the San Francisco Mime Troupe for a combined total of 22 years. HartBeat was founded to create original plays based on the Greater Hartford community. HartBeat Ensemble members chose to live and work in Hartford because they are passionate about using theater to inspire a struggling city in need of change.

Sea Tea Improv Presents an ImprovBoston Workshop with Will Luera
Sea Tea Improv is bringing Will Luera, the artistic director of ImprovBoston, to Hartford to teach a workshop on a longform improv style known as "Close Quarters" at TheaterWorks (233 Pearl Street, Hartford, CT) on Saturday, July 28th from 11AM to 2PM.

The members of Sea Tea Improv are taking this workshop, and we've got just 9 additional spots to fill, so we're telling Hartford-area improvisers about this great opportunity to join Sea Tea Improv for a workshop with this great instructor!

The cost of this workshop is $47 per person. For reference, a 3-hour workshop at ImprovBoston is $65 per person, but Sea Tea is using part of a grant from the City of Hartford that we got to bring outside improv instruction to Hartford to help cover some of the cost for CT improvisers!

There are only 9 spots, and since this is coming up very soon, the only fast and fair way we can think to offer these spots is first-come-first-served via a PayPal payment. (Note: you do not need PayPal account to pay via PayPal: you will see an option that says "Don't have a PayPal account? Pay with your debit or credit card as a PayPal guest.")

Physical Improv (Summer Improv Workshop Series)
Instructor: Kate Sidley
Cost: $35, $30 for college students

Say goodbye to talking heads! This workshop is designed to get improvisers relaxed and comfortable with being physically active on stage. Create a realistic subway car, dive off Niagra Falls, be a gnarled tree, and get swept up in a tornado. This class will give you the tools you need to create dynamic and active environments on stage while working physically and safely with other improvisers. You don’t need to be an athlete or contortionist to be physical in improv, but with the support of your team and some basic skills, you’ll have an audience applauding your every feat. Students should come prepared to move.
