[Workshop] Get Weird, Don't Panic: Mastering the Organic Opener
Are you tired of being an individual, autonomous human brain not linked to a massive, shared hive mind?

If so, the Organic Opener is for you! In this workshop you will learn and practice the Organic, a freeform, unstructured improv opener where all actions are reactions inspired by the sound and movement of our teammates.

We'll practice positivity and agreement with our scene partners. We'll learn to infuse our improv with the joy of unexpected discovery. We'll gain experience balancing bold choices with intense listening and shared focus on stage. We'll exercise deep group mind with our teammates. We'll practice building and following patterns as a group.

The Organic Opener is one of the strangest and most challenging improv openers, but we'll find that this highly collaborative form can take our scenes to more fun and exciting places than we ever could have gotten alone.

This workshop is for intermediate and advanced improvisers.

[Workshop] Boat, Water, Fish: Perfecting the Pattern Game Opener
Dog. Bird. Airplane. Superman. Superman on an airplane. Superman going through airport security. Hey, that almost sounds like a scene premise!

In this workshop, you will learn and practice the Pattern Game, an improv opener that uses simple word association to build complete premises for our scenes.

We'll practice accepting and building from our teammates contributions. We'll learn how to trust our own instincts and to respond to scene partners with honesty and enthusiasm. We'll exercise A to C thinking to clarify, diversify, and heighten the ideas we bring to our performances. We'll hone deep listening, shared focus, and group mind.

The skills required to perform the Pattern Game are foundational skills for strong Long Form Improv, and the lessons and exercises of this workshop will benefit improvisers at many levels of knowledge and experience.

This workshop is for intermediate and advanced improvisers.

Sketch Comedy Crash Course - 4-week Program with Showcase
Saturdays from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
(Showcase on 12/12 at 7 p.m.)

Have you ever wanted to try sketch comedy, but don't know where to begin? Don't know your upstage from your downstage? Do you get sweaty in front of a crowd? Is your computer full of half-finished screenplays formatted in comic sans? Have no fear! Sea Tea Improv's upcoming sketch foundation class will give you a full overview of the tools and techniques central to professional sketch comedy writing and performance.

Over the course of four weeks, the class will take you through the steps and skills you'll need to write a sketch show: idea generation, premise and game writing, the process of drafting and revision, writer's room etiquette, script formatting, and the essentials of staging, direction, and live comedic performance.

The course will end with a class share sketch showcase, a full length sketch show written and performed entirely by class members.

This specialty class also offers the expertise of three different instructors. The class is lead by Brenna Harvey, an experienced sketch writer and producer with Sea Tea Improv's sketch comedy program. Writing and drafting will be overseen by Julia Pistell (Former Director of Writing Programs at the Mark Twain House! Co-host of the national podcast Literary Disco! MFA! Award-winning writer!). Staging and direction will be overseen by Summar Elguindy (Theater expert! Professional theater instructor and director! Member of a Boston sketch team! Directed Jurassic Park: The Lost Jokes!). Don't miss this one-time opportunity to learn from three experienced writers and performers.

This class is open to beginner and intermediate sketch writers. Whether you want an immersive introduction to the form or want to refine your existing skill set, this class is for you.

[Workshop] Ditch the Monologue Monotony: Storytelling Openers for Improvisers
This one time Sea Tea Improv ran a workshop on initiating scenes from monologues, and it was really helpful for working on stage presence and learning how to develop premises, but then a bird flew into the studio and attacked everyone.

Okay, that didn't happen, but Sea Tea is holding a monologue workshop! Rich, true, human stories will always be full of interesting and unexpected information, and monologues are one of the simplest and best ways to generate ideas for our improv.

We'll learn how to confidently tell stories in front of a crowd at a moment's notice. We'll develop a sixth sense for the kinds of story details that inspire great scenes. We'll practice deep listening and full attention to our scene partners. We'll hone our skills at generating and communicating premises.

No prior experience required.

Instructor: Brenna Harvey
