[Workshop] Improv Skills for the Job Search
Register: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/workshop-improv-skills-for-the-job-search-registration-27208519414

How can you get a great company to say "Yes, and" to your resume?

How can you prepare for unpredictable interview questions?

What do you do if you have no idea what answer they are looking for?

Join Sea Tea Improv co-founder Julia Pistell and professional Human Resources recruiter (and improviser!) Brian Hines for a crash course in applying improv techniques to the job search process.

We'll focus on techniques to craft your resume to be genuine but tailored for a job posting, interviews and how to handle tricky questions, navigating job fairs, and how to present yourself so you have the opportunity to display you’re more than a resume.

Together we'll transform basic improv principles into the skills you need to look amazing for the recruiters, HR departments, and hiring managers.

About the Instructors:

Julia Pistell has performed in hundreds of improv shows across the country. A founding member of Sea Tea Improv, she was a member of both undefeated CT Cage Match teams, as well as the undefeated Upright Citizens Brigade Indie Cage Match championships. She is in the Advanced Study program at the Upright Citizens Brigade and has studied under Will Hines, Shannon O'Neill, Chelsea Clarke, Ryan Karels, Erik Tanouye, and more. She has also studied unusual improvisational forms with Hot Cocoa Productions such as Campfire, Disaster Movie, and Spoken; is a co-creator of the parody show "Sex and the Sea Tea"; and assistant directed Knuckle Sandwich Production's "Disney Reality Show." Julia's improvisational technique focuses on finding character philosophies and combining narrative styles with games. She has taught improv through Sea Tea Improv and the Hartford Stage to adults and teens alike since 2010. She and Summar Elguindy brought eight all-star teens to Chicago in 2014 to perform improv, sketch, and stand-up comedy.

Brian Hines has been an active member of the CT Improv Community for 3 years and has been trained through Sea Tea Improv and the Upright Citzens Brigade. He's been a performer with teams such as the Great Make Believe Society, Winnipeg, Brain's Song, and newly formed house team Part Time Life Guards. Brian has also been fortunate enough to perform at festivals in Hartford, New York City, Philadelphia, and Providence. With all this going on, he's managed to have a career in the world of Talent Acquisition and Staffing. Brian has 15 years of experience (gasp!) working for search firms (aka headhunting), onsite contract management, and internal recruiting and management. He's worked for large companies, as part of small teams, led activities at college career fairs, large technical career fairs, performed countless interviews and phone screens, and earned an MBA from the University of Hartford in the midst of this.

Doors open at 11:30PM, and the film will start at midnight.

This is an official screening licensed by Criterion Pictures USA, Inc.

About The Rocky Horror Picture Show:

A divine film adaptation from Richard O'Brien's British musical horror comedy/rock opera, produced by Lou Adler and Michael White, The Rocky Horror Picture Show features revered performance by Tim Curry (Clue, Home Alone) as a bizarre and self-proclaimed "sweet transvestite from Transsexual, Transylvania," and Susan Sarandon (Dead Man Walking, Thelma and Louise) and Barry Bostwick ("Spin City"), as Brad and Janet, a couple who find themselves lost on a cold, rainy night. The madcap, musical mayhem begins when the couple takes refuge in the castle of Dr. Frank-N-Furter as he is about to unveil his greatest creation - and have a bit of fun with his reluctant guests.

Selected by the Library of Congress for preservation in the United States National Film Registry for being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant," the film gained notoriety as a midnight movie when audiences began participating with the film in theaters. The film has entered the pop culture lexicon for its many iconic and memorable scenes, including the song "The Time Warp" which has been covered by handfuls of artists and the often quoted phrase, "Dammit, Janet."

Register: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/improv-302-the-set-list-8-week-improv-comedy-course-registration-27499720404

Mondays from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

In “The Set List,” Sea Tea Improv will teach you how to play the games you know (and many you don’t) to the very best of your ability.

Root out the games within the game, and play to the top of your intelligence no matter if you’re speaking in gibberish, mime, poorly translated Russian, or alphabetical order. We’ll apply advanced scenework techniques to simple games to find the perfect blend of short-form styles and practical theatrical concerns (is there conflict? How’s your stage presence looking?).

Make bolder choices, do better scenes, and walk away with a greater understanding of how to have the most fun while using the best part of your brain. Lots of personal feedback in every class. Bring your own strengths and style to short-form games: that’s the goal.

Class Dates:

November 21, 2016

About the Instructor: Julia Pistell has performed in hundreds of improv shows across the country. She has also studied unusual improvisational forms with Hot Cocoa Productions such as Campfire, Disaster Movie, and Spoken; is a co-creator of the parody show "Sex and the Sea Tea"; and assistant directed Knuckle Sandwich Production's "Disney Reality Show."
