The Vagina Monologues by Eve Ensler

SEA TEA IMPROV JOINS THE GLOBAL MOVEMENT TO STOP VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN AND GIRLS

The comedy theater will present a benefit Production of Eve Ensler’s THE VAGINA MONOLOGUES, featuring women from through the Connecticut comedy community. Directed by Julia Pistell, the production will highlight the joy, pain, and experience of having a vagina.

If you've never seen the Vagina Monologues, this is a great way to see it for the first time: listen to the testimony of women across the world, performed by the women in your community. If you've seen the play many times, this production promises to carry the lively, electric energy of seasoned improvisers. The play will be presented traditionally (not improvised, sorry, improv superfans!), but please do stay after the production for an audience-inclusive discussion and performance of issues surrounding violence against women in the workplace.

Proceeds Benefit YWCA New Britain's Sexual Assault Crisis Service (SACS). In their words, SACS "covers a 46-town region - all of Hartford County, part of Tolland County and the town of Plymouth. We offer assistance to sexual assault survivors and their loved ones. These services are critical after such trauma, helping victims and their families regain feelings of independence, optimism and hope. The advocates on staff are trained to work with hospital staff, the court system, public safety officers and other counselors assisting their clients."

About the Director: Julia Pistell is the Managing Director of the Sea Tea Comedy Theater, and one of the founding members of Sea Tea Improv. Currently a freelance writer, and formerly the Director of Writing Programs at the Mark Twain House & Museum, she is a passionate leader and advocate for women's rights and intersectional feminism. Her writing can be found on Book Riot, Northend Agents, the Hartford Courant, and beyond.

“Probably the most important piece of political theater of the last decade…” — The New York Times

“Spellbinding, funny, and almost unbearably moving . . . it is both a work of art and an incisive piece of cultural history, a poem and a polemic, a performance and a balm and a benediction." — Variety

V-Day is a global activist movement to stop violence against women and girls. Further information about V-Day can be found at:
