Be a Light: The Ghostlight Project action & party at Sea Tea
Sea Tea Improv joins a national movement to affirm theaters as spaces of change, challenge, safety, and joy for our community.

Come on over at 5:00 pm for our 5:30 Ghostlight ceremony. What's a ghostlight? Well, traditionally, theaters leave a light on when all other lights are shut off. It's the light that keeps the space safe.

Join us in our own symbolic Ghostlighting (so much more fun than gaslighting, are we right?) a few days before the inauguration. Simultaneously with thousands of other theaters across the nation, we'll shut off all of our lights, then simultaneously light flashlights (bring your own) and spread our light across the world.

The Ghostlight Ceremony will happen promptly at 5:30, at the exact same moment as theaters all over America.

Sea Tea Improv is also very committed to living out these ideas in a tangible way. As such, we will have a suggestion box out for any and all ideas on what we can do to "be the change." And of course, we will welcome open discussion with everyone present.

Please invite and share as many people as you like to this event!

Super special bonus: around 6:00 pm, we will be joined by our Theaterworks and Wadsworth friends, who will march to our theater and celebrate the Ghostlight Project with us. We'll keep the bar open until 8:30. Come on by!

There are also so many other great theaters participating. If you prefer, join our friends at Theaterworks, Hartford Stage, or Hartbeat Ensemble.

Good Joke/Bad Joke Bingo with Shawn Wickens!
Good Joke/Bad Joke Bingo is an interactive stand-up comedy show.

Random bingo numbers determine which joke or story Shawn Wickens tells. Some are great. Some are not.

The audience plays along on bingo cards to win PRIZES. Some prizes are great. Some are not.

Shawn Wickens is co-founder of the Bad Theater Fest and the Bad Film Fest. Both highlight projects that fall on the more daring and unusual end of the spectrum. His improv ensemble Junior Varsity have been together for almost 10 years.

Prior to performing he published several books, available on Amazon. He lives in New York. He’s originally from Ohio. He once mistook 1/2 of Steely Dan for a sandwich delivery guy.

About the Instructor: Terry Withers hails from New York where he performed improv routinely at the UCB Theatre (The Terry Withers Mysteries, Fuck That Shit, Dark Days) and the Reckless Theatre (The New David Mamet Play). David Mamet's "The New David Mamet Play"
A Hilarious Spoof of A Modern Classic!

Comedic Improvisers Hunter Nelson & Terry Withers are veteran performers and teachers at some of the most notable improv comedy institutions in the country, including the UCB Theatre, Magnet Theatre, Baltimore Improv Group & Reckless Theatre.

While they insist David Mamet has retained them to workshop his newest, ever changing script, audiences are certain they make up each "workshop" as they go. And nothing could delight them more than the improvised madness these two pros deliver, always in a pitch perfect tone matching Mr. Mamet's more famous works.

Chatterbox: Improv Meets Storytelling feat. Poet Mind.Evolution.
Improv and Storytelling are like two siblings who can't stop chattering.

In this show, Chatterbox: Improv Meets Storytelling, we'll all hear some compelling stories for the first time, and then our improvisers spin the ideas and themes from those stories into some awesome comedy scenes for you!

Sometimes the stories are from a special guest, sometimes we'll ask the audience for stories, sometimes a professional storyteller, or sometimes it's our own improvisers -- but any way it goes, you get a little bit of improv and a little bit of storytelling!

Our guest for this show is poet Mind.Evolution. AKA Tracy Caldwell! She has performed on major stages across the U.S. from the Apollo in Harlem, NY, Limelight Stage in Boston, MA, Apache in Alanta, GA and Anthology in San Diego, CA. She has an album with another well known poet MIRA entitled “Real Brothers/Real Sisters”: amzn.to/2k5YXkI

Improv'd Cinema - Sea Tea Improv Fixes Una Telenovela
Improv'd Cinema: Sea Tea Improv Fixes a Movie!

Here’s how it works: The audience helps pick a movie from the night's chosen genre that our improvisers have never seen. Then, think Mystery Science Theater 3000, but instead of cracking jokes while the movie plays, we replace all the audio live! We hit mute, and Sea Tea Improv will dramatically improve this terrible film by voice-acting over the entire movie — with a new original musical score and live foley sound effects — on the spot and on the fly!

For this show, we'll be fixing una TELENOVELA! Come hear us put voices and a whole new plot on on top of one of the most famously expressive acting motion pictures have ever known.

The Vagina Monologues by Eve Ensler
Tickets: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/the-vagina-monologues-by-eve-ensler-tickets-31245539249

SEA TEA IMPROV JOINS THE GLOBAL MOVEMENT TO STOP VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN AND GIRLS

The comedy theater will present a benefit Production of Eve Ensler’s THE VAGINA MONOLOGUES, featuring women from through the Connecticut comedy community. Directed by Julia Pistell, the production will highlight the joy, pain, and experience of having a vagina.

If you've never seen the Vagina Monologues, this is a great way to see it for the first time: listen to the testimony of women across the world, performed by the women in your community. If you've seen the play many times, this production promises to carry the lively, electric energy of seasoned improvisers. The play will be presented traditionally (not improvised, sorry, improv superfans!), but please do stay after the production for an audience-inclusive discussion and performance of issues surrounding violence against women in the workplace.

Proceeds Benefit YWCA New Britain's Sexual Assault Crisis Service (SACS). In their words, SACS "covers a 46-town region - all of Hartford County, part of Tolland County and the town of Plymouth. We offer assistance to sexual assault survivors and their loved ones. These services are critical after such trauma, helping victims and their families regain feelings of independence, optimism and hope. The advocates on staff are trained to work with hospital staff, the court system, public safety officers and other counselors assisting their clients."

About the Director: Julia Pistell is the Managing Director of the Sea Tea Comedy Theater, and one of the founding members of Sea Tea Improv. Currently a freelance writer, and formerly the Director of Writing Programs at the Mark Twain House & Museum, she is a passionate leader and advocate for women's rights and intersectional feminism. Her writing can be found on Book Riot, Northend Agents, the Hartford Courant, and beyond.

“Probably the most important piece of political theater of the last decade…” — The New York Times

“Spellbinding, funny, and almost unbearably moving . . . it is both a work of art and an incisive piece of cultural history, a poem and a polemic, a performance and a balm and a benediction." — Variety
