Our shortform improv show!

Similar to “Whose Line is it Anyway?”, we take tons of suggestions from the audience and use them (and a few audience volunteers here and there) in a variety of scenes, songs, and competitive games made up right on the spot!

Come see the show and have dinner, drinks & dessert while you watch — City Steam brews their own beers right on the premises.

This is our first and longest-running show — we’ve performed over 50 monthly shows at City Steam since 2009.

Our longform improv show!

We bring the big-city style improv of New York, Chicago, Boston & LA to life in Hartford!

We’ll take a single suggestion of a word, phrase, or title, get inspired by improvised stories from celebrity guests, or interview audience members to create a 25-40 minute improvised comedy with different scenes, themes & characters!

The showcase features Sea Tea Improv’s show AND other performances by invited groups & mixed improvisers from all over, for a big fun festival-style show!

In this newest addition to our monthly shows, we put on special one-time or experimental comedy shows that may not even be improv!

We’ve done improvised musicals, a special show for kids & families, a sketch comedy show with live music similar to SNL, a show where the improv groups swapped members, and a show with new one-off groups that were no bigger than 3 members each!

These shows are where we do something truly unique — don’t miss a once in a lifetime opportunity!

About the Instructor: Daniel Davidson is one of the newer members of Sea Tea Improv and brings with him a wealth of national improv experience. He first began studying improv with Bay Area Theatersports (BATS) in San Francisco in 2008 with the modest goal of meeting people in a new city. Instead, he met his Destiny (now his wife of 5 years)! After completing the BATS improv program, Daniel trained privately with instructor Dave Dennison, focusing on theatrical scenework. Soon it was off to Hollywood, where he studied improv and comedy writing at The Second City Hollywood and iO West, and graduated from The Second City Conservatory in 2012. Since moving to Hartford in 2013 Daniel has been the unofficial winner of several 2-prov shows and an untold number of arguments. He is thrilled to be making his Sea Tea Improv teaching debut and asks that you please put you cell phone on silent or vibrate.

This course is one of Sea Tea Improv’s 3 “Foundation” level adult improv courses, along with “The Scene”. This class was last offered in early 2014 & taught by Joe Leonardo.

This course is limited to 15 students.

Do you tend to hang out on the back line until you feel like you have the perfect idea? Do you cower in terror that your scenes will never get swept? Or, do you think a fellow improviser is so funny that you wonder what it would be like to only do scene after scene with her?

If any of these apply to you, sign up for 2-Prov -- a performance class on the art of performing with only two people onstage. You & your partner will play 100% of the characters, make 100% of the choices, and do 100% of the editing. Challenging, fun, and freeing, 2-Prov is just the best.

Taught by Julia Pistell of "Julia and Jeffrey," winners of Round 1 of the CT Cage Match 2013.

There are two ways to sign up: grab a partner and sign up together, OR sign up solo and we'll match you with a great partner for the course! All you need is instructor approval (send a request via email to julia@seateaimprov.com ).

Class will end with a big show! Get brave and sign up!

Class dates:
Monday, September 8
Monday, September 15
Monday, September 22
Monday, September 29
Monday, October 6
Monday, October 13

Performance date TBD

About the Instructor: Julia Pistell has performed in hundreds of improv shows across the country. A founding member of Sea Tea Improv, she was a member of both undefeated CT Cage Match teams, as well as the undefeated Upright Citizens Brigade Indie Cage Match championships. She is in the Advanced Study program at the Upright Citizens Brigade and has studied under Will Hines, Shannon O'Neill, Chelsea Clarke, Ryan Karels, Erik Tanouye, and more. She has also studied unusual improvisational forms with Hot Cocoa Productions such as Campfire, Disaster Movie, and Spoken; is a co-creator of the parody show "Sex and the Sea Tea"; and assistant directed Knuckle Sandwich Production's "Disney Reality Show." Julia's improvisational technique focuses on finding character philosophies and combining narrative styles with games. She has taught improv through Sea Tea Improv and the Hartford Stage to adults and teens alike since 2010. She and Summar Elguindy brought eight all-star teens to Chicago in 2014 to perform improv, sketch, and stand-up comedy.

This course is limited to 12 students.

Workshop: Improv Support Ninjas (for Intermediate & Advanced Improvisers)
Ever watch an improv scene from the back-line and think, "ooh, they're struggling. I wish I could help, but I don't want to trample all over their scene." In this workshop we'll focus on how to support your scene partners like a ninja. Identify the game that your partners are overlooking, hand it to them, and vanish into darkness before anybody even notices you were there.

*Every attendee gets an invisible, weightless, fully-improvised ninja star.

Instructor: Greg Ludovici

Cost: $35
