Wednesdays from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Do you tend to hang out on the back line until you feel like you have the perfect idea? Do you cower in terror that your scenes will never get swept? Or, do you think a fellow improviser is so funny that you wonder what it would be like to only do scene after scene with her?

Taught by Julia Pistell of famed two-prov teams "Julia and Jeffrey," "Performance Review," and "Wow. Sure! The Twosical!."

[Workshop] Raising the Stakes: Bringing Genuine Emotion into your Scenework
Register via Eventbrite:
www.eventbrite.com/e/wo.....event

Do you find yourself "breaking" in the middle of scenes when you are in an emotional moment? Laughing when you meant to play a sincere character? Do you find your scenes sometimes getting stuck or falling flat? Do you have a hard time knowing how to react when your partner makes a bold emotional choice?

Adding strong and genuine emotions can make for more relatable and believable characters, and can ground your scene in a working reality. Successfully heightening emotions can clarify and improve the relationships and raise the emotional stakes of the scene, providing more fodder for your hilarity to shine, and making your improv feel effortless.

In this workshop we will practice exercises that focus on identifying and harnessing our own emotions, and building stronger relationships between characters that will drive your scene forward. This is a great workshop if you want to raise the stakes, or simply to go back and practice some foundational acting skills.

About the Instructor: Miriam Lexie has been improvising with Sea Tea Improv since August 2013. Prior to that she had the chance to explore the theatrical stage with Bryn Athyn Community Theater in Pennsylvania, in shows such as The Romancers and Twelfth Night. Through her work with Sea Tea Improv, Miriam has had the opportunity to perform in a variety of shortform and longform improv shows, as well as traveling to perform at festivals in cities such as Baltimore, DC, Philadelphia, Hartford, Minneapolis, and Chicago. She has participated as a teacher for Hartford's Beat on the Street program, has assisted in teaching numerous corporate team-building workshops, and in the spring of 2016 will be teaching workshops for the children of Newtown, CT as part of an ongoing recovery project. Miriam has a Masters of Science in Clinical and Counseling Psychology from Chestnut Hill College, PA. She currently resides in East Hartford and feels passionate about making Hartford an exciting city to play in and explore. She is also fascinated by the intersections of performance art, literature, psychology, and neuroscience. She is currently employed full time as an Addictions Counselor in Holyoke, MA.
